Staff Correspondent: Dhaka, Oct-07,
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the next Election Commission (EC) would certainly be formed through search committee.
"It is not possible to form EC through an
act now as the tenure of the current commission would end in the February next
and the corona pandemic situation is going on. So, we would form the EC through
search committee," he said while talking to newsmen after attending a
function to unwrap a book titled "Swarane Sheikh Mujib: Sohosrabder
Shreshtho Bangali" at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in the
capital.
The
law minister said the prime minister in her recent press briefing has already
said the new EC would be formed through search committee.
"Though
gazette on search committee is not any act, it is closer to an act as it was
published after taking consent of all and with President's decision,"
Anisul added.
The
law minister earlier at the function said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman always did constitutional politics as he only believed in
that.
"Even
in his historic speech of March 7, 1971, all his words were within the law. He
only declared independence when he got the people's mandate. After the killing
of Bangabandhu along with most of his family members, there was a time when
there were attempts to make him forgotten through government finance. We are
being able to know Bangabandhu these much as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has
gifted us 'Karagarer Rojnamcha' and published 'Osamapto Attojiboni," he
further said.
Dr
Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of the Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee,
ULAB Trustee Board member Qazi Nabil Ahmed, MP, acting vice chancellor Prof Dr
Samsad Mortuza and ULAB Trustee Board special adviser Prof Imran Ahmed were
present at the function, among others.
