Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed on Monday urged the newly outside cadet Sub-Inspector   to work for the welfare of the people and the continuous prosperity of the country by giving priority to human values above personal interests and fascination. 

“With the mentality of fulfilling one's duty as a servant of the people, you has to perform your duty unitedly against the adverse and evil forces without surrendering to the situation,” he said.

The IGP came up with the remarks while adressing as the chief guest after inspecting the passing out parade of the 38th outsidel Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI) Batch at the Parade Ground of the traditional Bangladesh Police Academy,  Sarada, Rajshahi, on Monday.

He called upon the police personnel to adhere to the five directives of stopping unprofessional behavior towards the people, demonstrating zero tolerance against corruption and drugs, implementing beat policing and ensuring welfare and discipline of the police personnel.

The IGP said the dignity of police uniforms must be protected. You have to work with respect and pride so that you can go home with dignity at the end of the service, he said.

The police chief said the professionalism, bravery and unimaginable success of Bangladesh Police in curbing terrorism and militancy has been appreciated by all. The formation of specialized units and continuous increase in manpower has resulted in the development of police efficiency. 

The ability to use modern technology to deal with new crimes and tactics has been acquired. Digital Forensic Lab, DNA Testing, Cyber Crime, Financial Crime, Victim Support Center, Women and Children, Disabled and Elderly Help Desk, Beat Policing, National Emergency Service 999 and other activities have been launched for the welfare of the people, he added.

He said that those who used to criticize the police for various reasons are also speaking on behalf of the police today, holding pens. This is our huge achievement. 

"We have to maintain the trust, confidence and respect of the people towards the police. You have to act as the first trust of the people," the IGP said.

The IGP awarded medals to those who excelled in various subjects. The winners are: Best Cadet (Male) Md. Tanvir Ahmed, Best Cadet (Female) Nasrin Sultana Jyoti, Academic Md. Kamrul Hasan, Alok Bihari Gun in the parade, Md. Abdul Qadir Khandaker in overcoming obstacles and Md Nazmus Sakib in musketry . A total of 1,231 trainees including 57 women participated in the parade.
