Can firmly say Rab last resort in rescuing abducted victims: DG

The Rapid Action Battalion's success in combating crime with upholding humanity is unprecedented in the world, said its Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

"I can firmly say that Rab is the last resort when it comes to rescuing abducted victims," he said while speaking at a programme on 'Rab Memorial Day' organised at the force's headquarters to commemorate those who died while performing their duties.

He highlighting the force's success and sacrifices of the deceased members, and asked Rab personnel to perform their duties – upholding human rights – and going beyond individual interests. So far, 328 robbers have surrendered to Rab. The elite force did not only convince them to surrender but also took measures for their rehabilitation, he said, adding "there is a breeze of peace in the Sundarbans now."

The Rab DG highlighted the force's achievements in curbing different crimes including drug trade and militancy, and in recovering firearms in recent years.  "In the past few years, anti-drug drive was one of the toughest challenges for Rab. In the special anti-drug operations, 100 drug dealers were dead in exchange of fire while six Rab member sustained bullet injuries," he said.

Rab is now recognised as a well-formed and dynamic force for carrying out successful operations in curbing crimes in a coordinate way, he said. Rab has been able to reach the pinnacle of success in a very short time due to the sincerity, dedication and hard work of all the members, he added.

Family members of several Rab members, who died while performing duty, also spoke in the programme and thanked the force for staying beside them.
