Evaly fraud case: Tahsan, Mithila, Sabnam Faria dropped from charge sheet

Tahsan Khan, Sabnam Faria and Rafiath Rashid Mithila

Dhanmondi police have dropped the names of five people including actors Tahsan Khan, Rafiath Rashid Mithila and Sabnam Faria from the charges of a fraud case, finding no grounds relating to E-commerce platform Evaly.

Police, however, have pressed charges against Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel alias Babul, Chairman Shamima Nasrin and two others -- vice-president of Evaly Abdullah Al Mamun and category head Mohammad Abu Taher alias Saddam -- in the same case.

The two others whose names were dropped from the charges are chief marketing officer SM Arif Reza Hussain and executive operation officer of Evaly Abu Tayes. Among the accused, Tahsan was the Goodness Ambassador of Evaly, Mithila brand ambassador and Sabnam Faria is chief public relations officer.

Tahsan, Mithila and Faria had got bail from High Court and CMM Court on different dates. Of the charge sheeted accused, Rassel and Shamima were earlier shown arrested in the case and they are in jail while Mamun and Saddam were shown fugitives in the charge sheet.

Md Rajib Hassan, a sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station and the investigation officer of the case, yesterday submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. In the charge sheet, the IO said Mithila and Faria were not posted at the Evaly during the time of occurrence while Tahsan neither gave any order for buying any products of Evaly nor any supply order.

So, their names were dropped from the charges of the case, added the IO. While charges against Rassel, Shamima and two others over fraud were found to be true and they should be brought under trial, the IO said. The IO appealed to the court to issue arrest warrants against Mamun and Saddam as they did not get bail from any court.

The charge sheet will be placed before the court on March 27 for next course of action. On December 4 last year, an aggrieved customer of Evaly -- Saad Sam Rahman -- filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station against nine people including Rassel, Shamima, Tahsan, and actors Mithila and Faria.
