AL nominates candidates for by-polls to 3 constituencies

The Awami League has announced its candidates for the by-elections for the three seats of the Jatiya Sangsad to be held on July 26. According to party sources, the candidates were finalized at a meeting of the Awami League's parliamentary board at the Prime Minister's official residence Ganobhaban on Saturday.

A press release signed by the party's office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua said that as per the decision of the meeting, Shah Ali Thana Awami League president Agakhan Mintu in 18 Dhaka-14 constituencies, district Awami League member Habibur Rahman in 231 Sylhet-3 constituencies and 253 Comilla in the by-elections of 3 constituencies respectively. Abul Hashem Khan, president of Burichang Upazila Awami League, was nominated by Bangladesh Awami League in 5 seats.

Awami League Parliamentary Board President Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting. Nomination Board members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Obaidul Quader, Dr. took part in it. Md. Abdur Razzak and Colonel (Retd.) Faruk Khan.

It may be mentioned that the Election Commission (EC) has postponed the date of voting for the by-elections of Sylhet-3, Dhaka-14 and Comilla-5 parliamentary seats to July 28. Earlier, the election was scheduled for July 14. The decision was taken at the 72nd meeting of the commission chaired by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at the Election Building in Agargaon on Thursday (June 10).
