The water levels of the Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra rivers have been increasing due to continuous rains and downpours over the last few days in Kurigram.

However, the local Water Development Board (WDB) Monday evening said that the water level in the river was still far below the danger level.

But the people of the area are concerned that the rising water might flood the area in a few days.

In addition, river erosion has occurred in several places as the river water has risen. The Kurigram WDB confirmed that the water level in all the rivers in the district has been rising for the past two days and some low-lying lands went underwater.

Ariful Islam, WDB executive engineer, said that although the water level in the river has risen, there is no danger of flooding at the moment.

However, river erosion has increased in some places due to rising water, he added.
