World Child Labor Prevention Day is being celebrated on June 12 with the theme 'Call of Mujib Year, End of Child Labor'. Like other countries of the world, Bangladesh is also observing the day with due dignity. A number of non-governmental organizations, including the Ministry of Labor and Employment of Bangladesh, the International Labor Organization (ILO) and UNICEF, have jointly launched various programs on the occasion. This year, Bangladesh is celebrating the golden jubilee of independence and the 100th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. So now is the time to take appropriate action to ensure the overall development of children. The government has set a target of eliminating risky child labor by 2021 through the implementation of SDGs and freeing the country from all forms of child labor by 2025. The government is committed to the elimination of child labor at the national and international levels.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "We are determined to ensure the education, safety and health of future generations of the country, including children." Our government has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the ILO Convention on the Risk of Child Labor. We have formulated 'National Child Labor Elimination Policy-2010' with the aim of eliminating child labor. According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Bangladesh is celebrating the day with seriousness as usual. This time the theme of the day is 'Call of Mujibvarsha, End of Child Labor'. Special supplements will be published in several national newspapers on the occasion of the day. In 2019, the United Nations declared 2021 as the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor. The ILO decided to observe the first Child Labor Prevention Day in 1992. Accordingly, since June 12, 2002, the ILO has been observing the day as 'Child Labor Prevention Day' every year through various programs.
