A.R. Rahman to grace the stage in Mirpur this month marking Mujib Year

Renowned Indian musician A.R. Rahman is set to return to Bangladesh after eight years to perform in a mega event, organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on March 29 to mark the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"We have decided to stage the concert. We are going ahead with our plan to arrange it on March 29," the BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the reporters in Mirpur today.

The novel coronavirus outbreak had postponed the event in 2020 where, apart from arranging a concert with the Academy Award-winning musician, the BCB also had two exhibition T20 matches between Asia and World XI in store. This time, however, the BCB has decided to settle with the concert.

"We have promised to arrange those two matches and we will arrange it whenever we get the chance," informed Nizamuddin while adding that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may attend the celebratory event, which will feature several leading musicians of the country alongside the Indian maestro Rahman, who had previously performed in Bangladesh at the invitation of BCB before the 2014 T20 World Cup.
