‘Banglar Samriddhi’ crew Hadisur’s body reaches Dhaka

The body of Md Hadisur Rahman, who was killed on March 3 in a rocket attack on a Bangladeshi vessel stranded at a Ukraine port, reached Dhaka on Monday.

A Turkish Airlines flight carrying the body landed at Shahjalal International Airport around at around 12:30pm on Monday, Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, executive director at the airport, confirmed the matter.

Hadisur’s body would be taken to his village in Barguna for burial his family, said Captain Mohammed Anam Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association (BMMOA) on Sunday.

The body was supposed to arrive on Sunday, but the flights got canceled due to heavy snowfall in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey. The 28 surviving crew members of Banglar Samriddhi returned to Dhaka on Wednesday.

Hadisur, a third engineer of the BSC ship, was killed in a rocket attack on the vessel. The ship had since then been declared abandoned.  Hadisur’s body was preserved in a bunker near Ukraine, as the procedure for bringing back the body was delayed because of the worsening situation in Ukraine.
