The recent new lower Rate Card imposed by the Department of Films and Publications (DFP) for daily English News Papers of Bangladesh has come as bolt from the blue. DFP authority has lower down the Rate Card for English dailies of Bangladesh. A vested corner is involved both inside and outside the DFP Management related to this double standard and mysterious decision of new low rate card of DFP initiated against the English News dailies publishing from Bangladesh. It’s needless to mention that Bangladesh is globally represented and Branded by the English News papers.
Diplomatic Missions in Dhaka Chattogram & Rajshahi is dependent on the news, views & other infos of Bangladesh and Foreign affairs published through the English News Media of ours. It’s a matter of great concern that government didn’t rendered any special incentives for News Paper Industry during the Covid19 pandemic. Private business houses faced a bad turn over during Covid19 and on justified reason the corporate houses curtail their Ads considerably on financial ground. Mention worthy the HR Management cost of English news paper is higher than Bengali news paper. Price of News paper production cost is higher than the post-covid19 . So the English News papers are struggling their existence only with the limited revenue resources of Government Advertisements provided from the DFP. It’s a matter of concern that while the Rate Card should get a higher price in post Covid19 era, instead; it has now a lower rate issued by the DFP.
Due to this decision controversy, negative sensation and question naturally arise among the stakeholders of English News Papers regarding the new mysterious decision of the DFP about the new lower rate cards. The stakeholders feel a vested corner in collaboration with some corrupt corporate business houses that are involved with News Paper industry may misguided and biased the DFP authority to take such a controversial and anti-English News Paper industry steps that not only threatening the very existence of English News Papers of Bangladesh but also causing a serious damage to the Branding of Bangladesh around the Globe. Authority concerned involve with English News Paper demanded an immediate intervention by the concern Ministry into this burning matter of lower rate card to reconsider. They also demanded the review of the DFP issued Rate Card Chart of English News Papers of Bangladesh for the sake of transparency and justice in the sector.
