Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy struck an epic 137 as Bangladesh were wrapped up for 298 in their first innings in the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban on Saturday.
Joy's maiden century in his just third Test was any Bangladeshi batter's first century against South Africa in any format of cricket, BSS reports. South Africa however gained a 69-run lead as they posted 367 in the first innings.
Joy clobbered 15 fours and two sixes in his 326-ball-knock before being the last batter out. Liton Das scored 41 and was involved in 82-run partnership with Joy for the sixth wickets stand. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the other notable scorer with 38 while Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 29.
South African offspinner Simon Harmer, playing his first Test since 2015, claimed 4-103 while debutant fast bowler Lizaad Willaims took 3-54. Bangladesh resumed the day third day on 98-4 and added exact 200 before being all out.
