Chattogram Bureau: Dhaka, Aug-01,

A legal notice has been sent to the government to stop the construction of a hospital at CRB in Chittagong within 24 hours to protect the environment and biodiversity.

It is noted that CRB of Chattogram is an open hilly place surrounded by many big trees and natural resources that known as” Lungs of the Chattagram”.Common people use it as a park, walkway, exercise center, cultural hub, heritage center etc. Recently Railway Authority has taken steps to build a 500-bed hospital along with 100 seats Medical College within CRB area as Public Private Partnership basis under Prime Minister Office. But common people resist it and raise their voice through arranging cultural program, rally, banner & festoon hanging etc.

On Saturday, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Mohammad Mamun sent the notice on behalf of Mohammad Khorshed Alam, a resident of West Mohra in Chandgaon, Chittagong.

The notice was sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, Director-General of Railways, Environment Secretary, Chief Engineer of Railways (East), Estates Officer of Railways (East Zone) and Managing Director of United Group.

Earlier, two more legal notices were sent on July 14.

Barrister Hasan MS Azim, a Supreme Court lawyer, sent a letter on behalf of Zia Habib Ahsan, a trustee lawyer of the Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation.

The other was sent by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), Bangladesh Environmental Movement (BAPA), Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), Nijera Kori and Save the Environment Movement (PABA).
