3 crore tk illegal lobster Shrimp a released in river: Coast Guard

The Coast Guard has rescued about 17 million illegal lobster fry in Hatia- an isolated island upazila of Noakhali, and released them into the river. Its estimated value is about 3 crore 20 lakh taka. No one could be apprehended as the smugglers fled away after sensing the presence of Coastguard members at the time.

The shrimp fry were seized from an engine-driven boat in Ajmar Khal area of the upazila around 2am on Thursday.

Bangladesh Coast Guard Hatiyar Station Commander Lt. ASM LutfarRahman  said about 17 million illegal lobster fry were seized from Hatiya’sAjmar canal at 2pm on the basis of secret information. The estimated value is about 3 crore 20 lakh taka. Later, the fry  were re-released into the Meghna River from the Tamarddi Coast Guard Paltoon of the upazila at 8 am on Friday in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer. He added that such a large number of lobster fry had never been recovered before.

Besides, the Bangladesh Coast Guard is always striving to maintain law and order, protect fishery resources and deal with natural disasters in the coastal areas of riverine Bangladesh, he said.
