Two persons were killed when a speeding dumper toppled over and fell on their auto-rickshaw in Gazipur’s Sreepur area on Saturday, police said.
One of the deceased has been identified as Maleka Akhter (50), the sole passenger. The identity of the auto driver, however, is yet to be established.
The accident occurred near MC Bazar on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 8.30am.
Mauna Highway Police officer-in-charge Mohammad Kamal Hossain said that the Mymensingh-bound dumper filled with chemicals meant for a ceramics factory fell sideways on the auto-rickshaw after its driver lost control of the speeding vehicle.
The two occupants of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot in the impact, the OC said, adding that the bodies have been taken into custody. "Legal action will be taken after an investigation," he added.
