Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee no more

Noted Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee passed away earlier today (March 24). He was 57.  Born on April 30, 1964, Chatterjee graduated from the Seth Anandram Jaipuria College of the University of Calcutta, after finishing his secondary schooling at the Baranagore Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama High School.

The actor was not keeping well for quite some time. However, the exact reason for his death is not known yet. As per reports, Chatterjee was shooting for a show on Wednesday (March 23), and suddenly started feeling unwell.

Further reports claim that he vomited on the sets a few times, after which the crew of the show looked after him. However, the actor was not ready to visit the hospital, instead, he went back home. Later, his family members called a doctor and medical aid was given to him.

However, the actor breathed his last today.  Chatterjee stepped into the industry in 1986, when he made his debut with Bengali film "Pathbhola", helmed by Tarun Majumdar. He was seen alongside noted artistes such as Sandhya Roy, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Tapas Paul, and Utpal Dutt.

The news of his sudden demise has left the Tollywood industry in deep shock. Soon after the news broke out, his fans and many renowned personalities paid their tributes to the actor.

Taking to Twitter, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her grief. She wrote, "Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee. Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends."

Stepping away from the limelight, he had started a successful stint in the traditional 'yatra' circuit. So, his name endured with the rural masses in India. In the last few years, the actor made a comeback on television, playing a character in the hit serial "Kharkuto".

Chatterjee appeared in films such as "Ora Charjon", "Tumi Koto Sundar", "Surer Akashe", "Toofan", "Maryada", "Amar Prem", "Papi", "Haraner Nat Jamai", "Jeevan Pradip", "Puroshottam Abirvab", "Mayer Anchal", "Arjun Aamar Naam", and "Sabuj Saathi", among others.
