A 93 percent of corona patients in Chattogram region are currently infected with the highly contagious Delta variant- according to a study conducted by Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CHIVASU) . Delta infections are equally prevalent in urban and rural areas. Infected patients include young, middle-aged and elderly.
After the unveiling of the genome sequence of the corona patients, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CHIVASU) gave this information to the media on Friday, August 6.
Recently, CHIVASU and Dhaka Science and Industry Research Council have jointly completed this research. Studies have shown that the Delta variant (B.1. 617.2) is equally distributed in cities and villages. Of the 30, 28 were infected with the Corona Delta variant. One of the remaining two patients was infected with a UK variant and the other with a variant of Wuhan in China.
They gave information that 15 people from Chittagong City Corporation area and 15 corona patients from the upazila were tested. The Delta variant is more contagious than the Novel Corona virus, spreading very quickly from one person to another.
Of the 30 patients, 14 were from Delta variants in the city and other 14 were from Delta variants from Hathazari, Mirsarai, Rangunia, Satkania, Anwara and Sandeep upazilas. There are six from Hathazari, four from Rangunia, one each from Mirsarai, Satkania, Anwara and Sandeep.
The Poultry Research and Training Center (PRTC) collaborated in the study titled 'Assessing the Health Risk of Patients with Covid-19' under the supervision of CHIVASU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gautam Buddha Das
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gautam said,7 teachers took part in this study . They are- Prof.Dr.Paritosh Kumar Biswas, Prof. Sharmin Chowdhury, Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Rana, Dr. Trideep Das, Dr. Pranesh Dutt, Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dr. Md. Tanvir Ahmad Nizami.
Beside these, BCSIR researcher Md. Selim Khan and Chief Scientific Officer Md. Morshed Hasan Sarkar took part in the study along with several officials.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gautam Buddha Das said, the Delta variant is highly contagious. It is now the dominant strain of coronavirus across the country. When a delta variant infects someone, the virus is much more multiplied in respective body. That is, the virus can increase their numbers very quickly. As a result, the infected person spreads more viruses through sneezes and coughs which can easily infect others.
Professor Dr. Gautam Buddha Das added, "We have collected samples of 15 patients who were admitted to the hospital from July 1 to July 19 and 15 patients who did not come to the hospital." Among them there are 18 males and 12 females. The Delta variant's offensive began first in the border districts and later in Dhaka. Although one or two patients were found in Chittagong, it was not known which variant was responsible for the current wave. That's what we found out through research. I believe it will be very helpful for physicians in the treatment of corona.
