Bashundhara Group
Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir has sought anticipatory bail from the
High Court (HC) in the case filed on charges of rape and murder of college
student Mosarrat Jahan Munia.
The plea has been put
on the cause list of the bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM
Zahid Sarwar for a hearing on Thursday, reports media.
Munia’s elder sister
Nusrat Jahan Tania had filed the case with Dhaka Women and Children Repression
Prevention Tribunal 8 against Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan,
his son Anvir, and six others on September 6.
The others named in the
case are the Bashundhara chairman’s wife Afroza Akter, Anvir’s wife Sabrina
Sobhan, showbiz models Faria Mahbub Piasha and Saifa Rahman Mim, Munia’s flat
owner Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim Akhter.
After an initial
hearing, Judge Mafruza Parveen asked Gulshan police to accept the allegations
as FIR.
On September 7,
Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas gave the PBI time till October 6 to
file its investigation report.
Police recovered
Mosarat's body hanging from a ceiling fan in a flat in Dhaka’s upscale
neighbourhood of Gulshan on April 26 this year.
The next day, Nusrat
filed a case against Anvir accusing him of abetting her sister’s suicide.
She filed the case
under Section 306 of the Penal Code.
A Dhaka court cleared
Anvir of the charges on August 18.
At the time, the court
also rejected the no-confidence petition filed by Munia’s elder sister Nusrat
Jahan.
Earlier on July 19,
Gulshan police station OC Abul Hasan, the investigation officer of the case,
filed the final report in the case with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate's Court.
Mosarat and Anvir were
in a relationship for two years, police said earlier. Anvir visited the
apartment several times and was last seen there on April 20, according to CCTV
footage.
