Covid: One death, 81 new infections reported in a day

Bangladesh has reported one death from the coronavirus on Monday, after recording zero fatalities for four straight days with 81 new infections logged in the 24 hours to 8am.
According to latest figures released by the health directorate, the overall caseload in Bangladesh now stands at 1,951,363 while fatalities at 29,119. A total of 7,397 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.86%.
Nationwide another 993 people recovered from Covid-19 taking the total recovery to 1,878,797. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 96.28% and the mortality rate at 1.49%.
Globally, nearly 481 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 6.12 million have died as of Monday morning, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
